Reducing Trailer Loading & Unloading Times

REDUCING TRAILER loading & unloading TIMES

For Valeo, a leading automotive parts manufacturer, this was not just a goal but a necessity to keep up with industry demands. They needed a solution that would not only optimize material flow but also seamlessly integrate into their existing operations without causing disruptions.
Slip Robotics delivered this by providing a user-friendly, turnkey automation system that allowed their team to start reaping the benefits immediately.

Challenge: Eliminating A Major Bottleneck

Challenge: Eliminating A Major bottleneck

Valeo operates in the highly demanding automotive industry, where timely delivery of parts is critical. A comprehensive supply chain analysis revealed significant transportation waste, particularly at the dock. The repetitive handling of parts between production and storage was a major bottleneck, leading to excessive time and energy spent on loading and unloading trailers.
Faced with the challenge of speeding up truck turnaround times, Valeo needed a solution that could handle high volumes efficiently without disrupting their operations. Traditional methods, involving forklifts and multiple touches, were no longer sufficient to meet their growing demands.

Solution: Seamlessly Integrated SlipBots

Solution: Seamlessly Integrated SlipBots

Slip Robotics initially deployed 26 SlipBots at Valeo’s facilities, directly addressing their bottleneck issues. The SlipBots were integrated at the end of production lines, where associates load product directly onto the bots. Once filled, operators use SlipBots to autonomously transport the products onto trailers, which are then shipped to an offsite warehouse.
Valeo was able to reduce its truck loading and unloading times sixfold.
“It took us 30 minutes to load or unload a trailer with forklifts. Now it’s five minutes! That increased throughput lets us do up to six trailer moves in the same amount of time and unlocks different material flows.”
Quinn saevre, supply chain CIM Manager at Valeo

Valeo was able to significantly reduce transportation waste. With fewer product touches and less forklift traffic around the dock, Valeo’s operations became more streamlined and safer. The SlipBots eliminated the need for forklifts to enter trailers, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.
The simple deployment and ease of training for Valeo’s team allowed them to begin using the SlipBots immediately. This rapid integration meant that Valeo could start seeing returns on its investment within the first week of operation.
The flexibility of the SlipBots also played a crucial role in Valeo’s decision to adopt this technology. Unlike traditional automation systems that can be rigid and difficult to adapt, SlipBots allowed Valeo to adjust their workflows on the fly, accommodating the dynamic nature of their production schedules.
